Ford Motor Co. introduced an all-electric version of the Transit Connect van at the Chicago Auto Show on Tuesday.

The all-electric van has a targeted range of up to 80 miles per full charge, and will be rechargeable using either 240-volt or standard 120-volt outlets.

The electric drive system is supplied by Azure Dynamics, Oak Hill, Mich.

Production is expected to begin in late 2010, Ford said.

The company also introduced a taxi version of the small van. The van will include a prep package for converting to compressed natural gas or propane.

Production will begin later this year.
